LEGENDS IN CONCERT: TOM JONES THE LEGEND
Wales has produced many great singers but the mining district of South Wales could not have foreseen they would give birth to a son destined to explode into the world of music. Tom Jones was born in 1940 to a mining family whose idea of entertainment was listening to the pit choir or a night out at the local club. In 1963 Tom and his band were performing in a local working men's club to earn a few pounds for his young family when he was spotted by Gordon Mills. Mills liked what he saw and within a few months was able to negotiate a recording contract with Decca. The union proved a dynamic formula and within a year Tom Jones, the voice of the valleys was a superstar. Since that time Tom has never looked back, his voice is still as powerful and his presence just as electrifying.
