ERASURE

ERASURE

Following the disbandment of the short-lived synth pop group Yazoo, former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke formed Erasure in 1985 with singer Andy Bell. Unlike their former groups, Erasure was synth-based with strong dance influences and a sharper, more accessible sense of pop song craft. Defined by Bell's distinctly high vocals and exaggerated theatrics, Erasure were an instant success in Britain, from where they originated, however overseas audiences were yet to be convinced. After a few years, the duo achieved commercial success in America with 1988's "Chains of Love," but they remained, in essence, a cult group on both sides of the Atlantic, cultivating a dedicated fan base over the course of their career. After tireless touring and song writing, Erasure penned several top 10 hits, including "Sometimes" and "La' Amour", which resulted in several highly successful albums. Erasure: Greatest Hits Live showcases all of the group's chart-topping hits and some of their lesser-known favorites. Their colorful costumes and choreographed dance moves promise to please old and new fans alike!

LEGENDS IN CONCERT: AL MARTINO

Born Alfred Cini in 1927 Philadelphia the young Al seemed certain from an early age the direction his life would take. His idols in his younger years were the ever popular Perry Como and Al Jolson both of whom commanded a worldwide following; but his biggest incentive came when family friend Mario Lanza encouraged the young Al to join the music industry and perform. Al was soon to get his big break when in 1952 he was offered the opportunity to record 'Here In My Heart' which coincidentally was also going to be recorded by Mario Lanza until Al asked him, as a friend, not to cover the song. Mario agreed and the song catapulted Al onto the world stage by becoming a million seller in the States as well as the UK which made him the first American artist to top the singles charts in both countries.

LEGENDS IN CONCERT: BELLAMY BROTHERS AND FRIENDS

Although the Bellamy Brothers are the most successful duo in country music history, they have never been favored by the critics. That doesn’t mean their music was routine, by-the-book and formula country-pop. More than most acts of the late ‘70s and ‘80s, the Bellamys pushed the borders of country music, adding strong elements of rock, reggae, and even rap. Nearly a decade after their first hit – the 1975 pop chart-topping, Southern rock-tinged “Let Your Love Flow” – the brothers had made a stack of best-selling records, and critical respect came by the late ‘80s. By that time, they had firmly established themselves as the top duo of the ‘80s, both in terms of popularity and musical diversity.

LEGENDS IN CONCERT: JAMES BROWN LIVE IN CHASTAIN PARK

This fabulous DVD shows the great performer at the top of his career performing at Chastain Park, singing such timeless classics as Papa's Got A Brand New Bag and I Feel Good. Life, however, hasn't always been so good for the musician. James Brown, it must be said, has had a very varied life! Born in South Carolina in 1933, Brown's first step into adulthood were halted when, at the age of 16 he took part in a robbery and was arrested. He received a sentence of 8-16 years hard labour, although he served only a short period. Arguably the only good to come from his brief spell in prison was meeting local man Bobby Byrd in a baseball match which led to their performing in various clubs in Taccoa; a chance meeting that gave birth to his career. In 1955 he joined the "Famous Flames" and attracted representatives of King Records and subsequently released Please, Please, Please that would become a top ten R&B hit. There followed many chartbound releases selling in excess of 100 million worldwide; but trouble seemed to stalk Brown as the IRS cornered him in the 70s demanding unpaid taxes of a colossal $4.5 million! Additionally he was involved in a major radio scandal and the break-up of his marriage. But to top all of these disastrous events, there was still to come the untimely death of his son, Teddy in a car accident: all this within the 70s - a truly desperate decade! But whatever life has thrown at James Brown he has definitely earned the soubriquet of "living legend"- he is simply an unparalleled talent. TITLES: 1. GIVE IT UP TURN IT LOOSE 2. But soccer was to be a lasting passion rather than a direction in life, and a passion he still follows with undimmed enthusiasm. His baptism into the world of music came about when performing with his father in the Modena Chorus, winning first prize in an international competition. LEGENDS IN CONCERT: TOM JONES & TONY BENNETT

‘Atlantic Crossing’ is an exclusive DVD production containing a fusion of two of the biggest music talents of the 20th Century. However different their styles, both have gained the adulation of a worldwide audience through their onstage charisma and massive record sales. Their beginnings couldn’t have been more removed with Tom Jones coming from Pontypridd in Wales and Tony Bennett from Queens in New York but both had a natural instinct to perform. Tom worked in many daytime jobs before being spotted performing in a bar by Gordon Mills, who began to hone this raw and very fresh talent into the star he is today. Tony on the other hand took a more academic approach to his singing, beginning with military bands through the war years and then training at the American Theatre Wing School. Tony’s break came when performing with the amazing Pearl Bailey. He was spotted by the equally amazing Bob Hope who suggested a change of stage-name from Joe Bari to Tony Bennett and so helped pave the way to greater glories. Covering such classics as ‘What’s New Pussycat’ (Jones) and ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco’ (Bennett), along with a further 17 unforgettable tracks, this superb DVD compilation is a listening and viewing pleasure with no equal.

In 1963 Tom and his band were performing in a local working men's club to earn a few pounds for his young family when he was spotted by Gordon Mills. Mills liked what he saw and within a few months was able to negotiate a recording contract with Decca. The union proved a dynamic formula and within a year Tom Jones, the voice of the valleys was a superstar. Since that time Tom has never looked back, his voice is still as powerful and his presence just as electrifying.

A superb DVD with the self-effacing Willie Nelson performing an inspired selection of the best known songs of his long and continuing career. Willie was born in Abbott, Texas in 1933 into a desperately poor family, his parents abandoned him at a very early age and he was left with his grandparents, which as fate would have it was where Willie strummed his first guitar. From this faltering start the road ahead was never going to be a smooth one, but his desire to make music overrode any everyday issues such as earning enough to pay the bills or feed his family. It was this dogged dedication to his music that 1960 spurred him to drive to Nashville armed with his guitar, a clutch of overdue bills and a 19 year old Buick that was about to push its last piston.

PUNK'S NOT DEAD

PUNK'S NOT DEAD

Punk's Not Dead takes you into the sweaty underground clubs, backyard parties, recording studios, and yes, shopping malls and stadium shows where punk rock music and culture continue to thrive. Thirty years after bands like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols infamously shocked the system with their hard, fast, status-quo-killing rock, the longest-running punk band in history is drawing bigger crowds than ever, ãpop-punkä bands have found success on MTV, and kids too young to drive are forming bands that carry the torch for punk's raw, immediate sound. Meanwhile, "punk" has become a marketing concept to sell everything from cars to vodka, and dyed hair and piercings mark a rite of passage for thousands of kids. Can the true, nonconformist punk spirit still exist in today's corporatized culture? Featuring interviews, performances, and behind-the-scenes journeys with the bands, labels, fans, and press who keep punk alive, Punk's Not Dead dares to juxtapose pop-punk's music and lifestyle against the roots inthe 70s and 80s, resulting in unexpected revelations. A DIY search for the soul of a subculture and a celebration of all things loud, fast, and spiked, Punk's Not Dead shows punk is stronger and more relevant today than it's ever been.

ROD STEWART & THE FACES, THE BEST OF

ROD STEWART & THE FACES, THE BEST OF

Following the break-up of 60s mod group The Small Faces, lead singer Steve Marriott went on to form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton, while the three remaining members carried on writing and performing with new recruits from The Jeff Beck Group, Rod Stewart and Ron Wood. Carrying on with The Small Faces name for one more album, the band decided to shorten the name to The Faces. Though Rod Stewart remained in The Faces, he began a solo career in late 1969. Touring and releasing solo albums to drive his popularity to an all time high in the U.S., his English fans still only knew him as The Faces front man. When Stewart's second album came out in 1971, it reached No. 1, creating the international No. 1 single "Maggie May". The Faces resented Stewartâs U.S. popularity, but on the other hand it helped their 1972 album, A Nod is as Good as a Wink to a Blind Horse reached the U.S. Top 10. When Stewart's Every Picture Tells a Story reached No. 2 in the same year, it became obvious that he was too popular to remain in the band; he formally quit in 1975.
